Sisson has been training and turning out for Notts' reserve team since early February, putting in some assured performances in the centre of midfield for the reserve side, building up his fitness since suffering a serious ligament injury whilst playing for Mansfield at Exeter City in September 2000.

After working his way back to fitness at Field Mill, he was released and after a few months away his former manager Billy Dearden gave him the chance to train with The Magpies to build up his fitness.

Big things were expected of Sisson when he burst onto the scene at Field Mill during the 1998-1999 season, after progressing through the youth team, but the injury picked up 12 minutes into the match at St James' Park has been a serious setback for the midfielder.

And after months of waiting, 24 year old Sisson could well have earnt himself a contract for his efforts, according to manager Billy Dearden.

"As soon as the situation has been resolved with the takeover of the club - and as long as he doesn't have any fitness problems in the meantime - it is something I would like to do," Dearden told the Evening Post.

"To be honest, there is nobody more deserving of a contract.

"And I would hope to agree a deal with him once things are sorted out.

"He has been training with us for the last few days and, barring any further fitness problems, it is something I will be looking at."
