Notts Offer Fifteen Scholarships

Last updated : 13 May 2009 By Jacob Daniel
Just one year on from the re-launching of the club's youth system, Notts County have today offered fifteen young players scholarships for next season, and these will form the club's new youth team.

The new youth team will play it's matches in the Youth Alliance League next season, and will be hoping to gain some more of the plaudits that they've achieved at Under 16 level this season. Retiring central defender Michael Johnson will take on the job of youth team manager this summer, and is charged with bringing through young players who can emulate the success that he achieved both at Notts County and in the game as a whole.

It is hoped some members of the squad will be ready for first team duty sooner rather than later, and indeed two of the youngsters have already been called up by manager Ian McParland. Midfielder Alex Troke and forward Lewis Williamson were both brought into the first team equation for the game against Dagenham & Redbridge last month due to an injury crisis, however neither featured on the pitch.
