“Selfishly, I’m in pretty good shape,” said Slocombe.

“It was not good for the club that lockdown happened and we stopped the run that we were on, but the selfish side of me says it was not bad timing in my case.

“It gave me a bit more time to allow it to heal and prolong the recovery period, which it has done.

“I’ve had constant contact with Craig and Marco during it, which, credit to them, they’ve been really good in terms of getting in touch with me and seeing how I feel.

“I haven’t had, touch wood, any setbacks whilst we’ve been off, everything’s been fine.

“This last couple of weeks, I have stepped things up with friends and done some striking, so it wasn’t such a shock when we came back on the grass to do some kicking, so I’m in pretty good shape.

“I’ve not done a proper session for six months because of injury and lockdown, so you’re always going to have those cobwebs in terms of cardio work and the intensity you work at.

“I don’t believe that’ll just be me, that’ll be the other three goalkeepers also.”
