NOTTS COMPLETE COOMBES DEAL

With just a few grains of sand left in the League One summer hourglass for Chris Kiwomya, the Notts boss has moved to tie up a deal for young forward Adam Coombes ahead of the season curtain raiser at Sheffield United on Friday evening.

Twenty two year-old Coombes has signed a deal at Meadow Lane following a successful trial in which he was particularly impressive during the 3-3 draw against Ipswich Town, scoring Notts' second goal and tormenting the visiting defence along with fellow substitute Yoann Arquin.

Better known by his previous name of Adam Phillip, Coombes progressed through the youth system at Chelsea and caught the eye as strike partner to current Liverpool man Fabio Borini, but two serious injuries curtailed his progress at Stamford Bridge and he found himself released back in January.

To date, Coombes' only senior experience was three appearances during a loan spell with Yeovil Town, but his goalscoring record for the Chelsea reserve and youth sides is impressive - although Kiwomya has been utilising him as more of a wide forward during his brief friendly appearances.
