"I refuse to let us stagnate and I feel that the time is right for a new approach to reignite our season," said chairman Ray Trew.
"I feel we have lacked a level of discipline and organisation in our defensive play throughout the season which has undermined our efforts.
"By this stage of the season I felt that we needed to be seeing more consistent performances, which would naturally translate into better results.
"We know all too well how much of a sand trap this division can be - the longer we linger and struggle, the more difficult it will be to get out."
Academy manager Mick Halsall and under-21 coach Richard Dryden have been placed in temporary charge.
