Mills set to swoop?

After weeks of speculation, Darlington defender Matt Clarke could make his rumoured moved down south to Notts County now that long awaited funds have become available after today’s departure of Paul Heffernan to Bristol City.

Clarke to become a Magpie?
Clarke looks set to leave the Quakers due to their on-going financial situation as they look to reduce their wage bill, a similar experience that the Magpies have suffered of late.

Manager Gary Mills recently admitted to the Club’s Official Website that the 23 year old central defender was high on his list of potential transfer targets as he looks to strengthen the weak looking back-line in attempt to bounce back to the Coca-Cola League One.

And today, director Steve Thompson told the Evening Post: “There will be some money available to the manager as a result of Heffernan's move.”

“It will be up to him how he uses it.”

“Matt Clarke is a player the manager is interested in and if he says to us he is the player he wants, we will move from there.”
