McParland chasing Clarke

Notts County manager Ian McParland has today declared his interest in released Ipswich Town striker Billy Clarke on the club's official website. McParland has not shirked raound the subject of his search for a prolific forward, and has admitted that Irishman Clarke is at the top of his list.

Reported interested from League One sides Norwich City and Brentford, where Clarke ended the season on loan scoring 5 goals, could prove a stumbling block, but talk of signing someone with such a pedigree at this level is sure to create more optimism amongst fans.

Clarke came through the well respected Ipswich Town academy and impressed in his early outings for the first team, but this season found himself on the fringes of Jim Magilton's squad and he was farmed out on loan to Darlington, where he impressed in hitting eight goals in twenty games, including four at Macclesfield Town.

On his return to Portman Road he was again on the move, this time to League One side Northampton where he bagged a debut hat-trick, before ending the season back on the goal trail at League Two champions Brentford.

McParland told the official site:-

"It's stating the obvious to say that our priority is to sign at least one player who can be relied upon to score goals on a regular basis and we have a number of strikers in mind."

"But Billy is at the top of the list and although he is sure to get offers from a number of clubs, we'll be doing everything we can to convince him that his future should be at Meadow Lane."
