Formann on trial with Magpies

The 21-year old German goalkeeper - released by close neighbours, Nottingham Forest this summer - has agreed to join up with the rest of the squad for training on a trial basis during the close-season. Formann, who was considered an up-and-coming talent during his earlier Forest days, was released by the club after he ultimately out-grew his potential and with the likes of Darren Ward, Barry 'The Kenco Kid' Roche and, at one point last season, Paul Gerrard ahead of him in the pecking order, Formann's failure to break-through proved his downfall. Now, with Mildenhall potentially heading for the exit, the sole senior 'keeper, Saul Deeney is left - with just 10 senior appearances under his belt - to cover the sticks. So, the arrival of Formann looks set to do nothing more than provide cover for the young Irishman.
He was a regular in the Tricky Trees' reserve and youth outfits, although failed to break through to the senior side during his time at the City Ground and was thus loaned out to Grantham Town last season.
Formann failed to make a first-team appearance in three years with the Forest.
