Fenton heads north

The 24-year old defender, who had his contract terminated early in order to free the club of commitments for his wages, was signed for a cool £150,000 back in 2001 and featured regulary under Jocky Scott, Gary Brazil, Bill Dearden and current boss Gary Mills, although the latter was forced to release the once so highly-rated youngster in an attempt to cut the club's wage bill.

Fenton, who made over 200 appearances for County, never really looked as convincing a force as he had in previous seasons in a Notts shirt and as Gary Mills did with Stallard, he proved that he was not afraid to sacrifice a 'big name' player from his squad and so, despite rumours of Fenton turning down a reduced deal, the Preston-born youngster was shown the door.

In other news, Adam Murray, who enjoyed a brief spell under Bill Dearden this season, is reported to be ready to pen a deal at local rivals, Mansfield Town. Murray, who joined the Magpies on a non-contract basis in late November '03, has been approached by the Stags and a deal may be a possibility for the ex-Derby man.
