First of all on the possibility of getting money from Southampton, Preston and Rotherham over players who have moved from Notts to the respective clubs:

Jeff Moore (Chairman): “There are further incremental payments on some of the players, I don't know of all of those or how much but there are some depending on performances and appearances.”

Best... Notts entiltled to money for ex youngster
Geoff Davey (Chief Executive):
“(Leon) Best we earn money if he plays for Southampton… At the moment he's playing and scoring goals for Yeovil. The Saints are monitoring his progress and either expect him to be sold or play for Saints next season. We would get a percentage of the sell on.

“David Mcgoldrick has been playing for the Saints, we can get something when he has played twenty. He has played ten or eleven at the moment. Could be some money before the end of the season . “25,000 or £50,000 depending on how many games

“Kelvin Wilson has played 21/22 times for Preston, when he plays 25 we get £25,000, then after another 25 games, another £25,000.

“There is some substantial money potentially available to us.

“There was a sell on if (Will Hoskins) went from Rotherham (which he has to Watford), it takes a bit of unravelling to find out what proportion there is of it.”

On the successful Carling Cup run, where Notts beat Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Southampton, the panel said:

“It was probably less than £50,000 net by the time you take out price reductions, stewarding costs, less than £50,000 and we've had it. We make available as much as we possibly can. Last two years £500,000 loss per year. This year we look as though at the moment we will make a small profit this year and we give as much to the manager as we possibly can. Previous two years financed by loans that eventually want repaying.”

Hoskins... Played for Notts as a youth

Manager Steve Thompson spoke about the look for a new striker.

“We've enquired about strikers and the Chairman made amount available. No point bringing anyone in if they are no better than what we've already got. We wanted Tommy Wright, we thought Bruce Dyer was coming then he went to Bradford…we enquired about Leon Best, we went for Danny Crowe at Peterborough, then he started playing for them, then we get offered Trevor Benjamin... Any one who comes has to be with a view to a permanent move.

“Barry Conlon (currently scoring for Mansfield). We spoke to Darlington but he is too much like Big Jase.

“Tommy Mooney came to me on Saturday saying I'm out of contract and I'll come to you.”

On the state of the pitch courtesy of the Nottingham Rugby Club participating on Meadow Lane, the panel said:

“We need Rugby's money at Meadow Lane. If we haven't, we need a replacement for that. The Rugby club have been good partners… if we need to make significant repairs at the end of the season they will have to re-imburse us for that.”

After a show of hands at the forum, the majority agreed the money was needed.

Steve Thompson was then asked if anything has come of his dismissal from the touchline during the 2-1 win at Accrington Stanley.

“I've not heard anything. The Referee had a nightmare from start to finish whether he forgot to put report in or not I don't know.”

On Assistant Manager John Gannon, Thompson said:

Thommo... Faced most of the questions
“Nothing has been said about John Gannon! He has been an unsung hero. Avery good coach and we've known each other long time.”

After Lawrie Dudfield missed two from three attempts from the penalty spot during the 1-1 draw with Barnet, Thompson announced he has been stripped of the duty.

“We have a new penalty taker. You can't assimilate penalties. I was actually sat next to Howard Wilkinson at the time and if I could have got to the dugout in time I wouldn't have let him take the second one. He was sacked straight away from penalties anyway.”

After a comment on the amount of substitutions and the impact they have, Thompson had this response:

“Hydration and urine tests before every game home and away, and we can look from that and say he might only last 70 minutes…educating players to eat the right things. We know which players are working to maximum in training, if they aren't working in training they will not play on Saturday.”

Finally, on the much talked about defending of corners where Notts have employed every player in the box for the majority of the season Thompson noted the need for change:

“We made a conscious decision at start of the season how to defend from corners…from 16 games conceding once… when we conceded one we felt unlucky, then second and third. We are open to suggestions, we will leave one up and put (Jason) Lee at the back post. Touch wood its worked well in last few games.”
