County turn down Robins' offer

The Nottingham Evening Post reported late into the afternoon of County rejecting an official bid for the 21-goal striker after he turned down a new deal at Meadow Lane. Negotiations, however, are very much in their infancy with the Robins expected to place a further bid to beat off stiff competition for the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 striker's services.

City, who sacked manager Danny Wilson shortly after missing out in the Second Division play-off final last season, made an inital approach to contact the Magpies' top 'scorer and are again hot on the heels of Heffernan as they step-up their search for Lee Peacock's replacement.

Heffernan made 80 appearances for the Magpies in all, debuting back in April 2000 as a late substitute against Oldham. He burst onto the scene from the reserves, finishing the second string's side top goalscorer during the 01/02 season before chalking up 35 league goals for their first team counterparts.
