If the mooted transfer goes through it would mean that, under a 15 per cent sell-on clause, County would collect a cool £1.5 million.
The Meadow Lane outfit, who like many of their Nationwide League rivals have been hit by the fall-out from ITV Digital’s collapse, would have to pay 20 per cent of their stake to Birmingham – Finnan’s first professional club – as part of a similar sell-on deal.
But County would still come out of the situation with a net £1.2 million - not bad for a player who they sold to Fulham three and a half years ago for £600,000!
Sir Alex seems to have settled on Finnan after seeing first his choice, Tottenham’s Stephen Carr, fail to make a quick enough recovery from his year-long problems. Lets hope the former Notts player shines like a new peny in the forthcoming World Cup for Ireland!
