Connell Rawlinson says his move to Notts County was a 'no brainer'

The defender said “I had a decent season last year under Neil Aspin at Vale.

“I played 36 games across all competitions when I arrived.

“But I had a bereavement in the family and had a couple of weeks off.

“At the time John Askey was taking over as manager, and the lads had done well while I was away.

“I struggled to then break back into the team and that’s just how it panned out.

“At the end of the season, the manager was looking to free a bit of money up in his budget.

“I was transfer-listed, but I went back and had a really good pre-season.

“A week before I signed at Notts, he pulled me in and told me they wanted to take me off the transfer list and wanted me to stay.

“I was made up with that at the time, because I had put in a lot of effort to prove that I wanted to be there.

“But once Notts came along it gave me a decision to make as to whether I wanted to stay at Vale or come to Notts.

“I just felt that I was wanted and needed and I had no doubt in my mind about what I wanted to do.

“It (dropping out the league) wasn’t an issue because I want to play for clubs who want you to be there.

“Playing in front of fans is a massive thing for me and on Twitter after games it’s nice to hear positive things.

“Notts are a massive club and have a great fan base.

“As a footballer you want to play in front of thousands every week and hear your name being chanted.

“It was a no brainer to come here in that respect. That’s the reason why I came.”
