The Magpies finally secured that elusive first win of the season to pay tribute to the late Jimmy Sirrel.

Richard Butcher nodded home deep into stoppage time to help Notts push up the table, of which they now lie 12th.

Here are some of the comments that followed Saturday's emotional match…

Richard Butcher
spoke about the significance of his late goal, saying: "I don't think I've scored a more important goal.

"I wasn't sure if I got enough on it, I'll admit that, as I had to get it just right to loop the ball over the goalkeeper.

"To see it nestle in the net was a great feeling for everyone." (Notts County Official Website)

Michael Johnson revealed how much it meant to him to make amends for his mistake for the visitors' goal. He said: "It was my fault for conceding.

"I lost my marker trying to sort out our defence and the next minute I look round and the ball was in our box. I got caught out and I will hold my hands up. If we had lost it would have hurt me big time.

"
I was gutted but pleased to make amends. It was a great ball from Hammy. He is putting in some great deliveries and if we can gamble and get the runs right we will score a lot more goals from his delivery.

"We are on a run now and inside the club there was no panic because we knew the win was going to come. It was just a matter of time. Now I would like to see us build on that." (Nottingham Evening Post)

Ian McParland rounded up the day, declaring: "It was the right result on a very emotional day for everyone.

"It was always going to be difficult for everyone.

"For people like me, who played here for many seasons, and the supporters it was probably one of the most emotional days ever." (The Mirror)

Aldershot boss, Gary Waddock was unhappy with his side's late concession. He declared: "I can't explain why we concede goals late on. It's not a case of the lads not being fit enough and concentration.

"But we are conceding late goals and I am not too happy about it. We looked strong at times during the game, but the result tells you that they have won the game and that we have got nothing out of it. I felt we should have done.

"When it is so late in the game we have to hold on and get a point, because they are so important away from home.

"Both of the goals were poor from our side. The free-kick that came in the lad has got across one of our defenders to score and that shouldn't happen." (Nottingham Evening Post)
