Weir-Daley... Part of famed Forest youth set-up

Being part of the famed Forest youth set-up, Notts fans will be familiar with the name who was once tipped as Forests' next big thing.

Prolific at academy level, Weir-Daley's pace and finishing attributes had him as one of Forests' greatest ever reserve goalscorers and he finally made his much anticipated first team breakthrough during the 2005-06 season - Forests first in League One.

His debut came as a half-time substitute during the Reds' humiliating Carling Cup exit to Macclesfield Town.

He did enough to earn a first league showing five days later as Forest visited Gillingham.

He came off the bench with Forest two goals up with fifteen minutes left and bagged a crucial third after the Gills had pegged them back just a minute earlier.

He went on to make six more substitute appearances that year before last seasons' merry-go round saw Weir-Daley perform for four different clubs.

Weir-Daley in action as Forest lose to Accrington Stanley in Carling Cup
He started Forest's shock 1-0 first round exit to Accrington Stanley in the Carling Cup but was substituted after a poor showing and his next appearance came on loan at League Two strugglers Macclesfield Town as the Silkmen went several weeks without winning a game.

The 21-year-old made some impact though scoring twice in seven games alerting League Two promotion chasers Lincoln City.

It was there Weir-Daley proved his potential was still there as he impressed all becoming a fans favourite at Sincil Bank owing to his five goals, determination and exciting displays.

After a brace at championship elect Walsall in front of the Sky TV cameras Weir-Daley alerted the prying eyes of several scouts and was nominated for February's player of the month award.

Other than the Walsall strikes - incidentally a game that possible future strike partner and fellow Notts new boy Hector Sam scored - Weir-Daley notched past MK Dons (also on Sky), Hereford and Notts.

The goal at Meadow Lane in the Magpies' 3-1 win came late in the day with Weir-Daley also being denied by a stunning Kevin Pilkington stop from a Scott Kerr penalty rebound.

Stuart McCall... Bradford boss puzzled to have lost out on young gun

League One relegation battlers Bradford beckoned as Forests huge roster of strikers - Grant Holt, Nathan Tyson, Scott Dobie, Neil Harris and Junior Agogo - kept him out of Colin Calderwood's thoughts.

At Bradford he netted on his debut in a crucial relegation battle at Bournemouth. Former Notts man David McGoldrick had given the Cherries the lead but Weir-Daley came off the bench and popped up with a priceless final minute equaliser.

He started two games for them with two further substitute appearances before finishing the season with his last Forest showing as a late substitute in the playoff semi-final first leg win at Yeovil Town.

Fans were angered he wasn't used in the second leg as the Reds were stuffed at home to Russell Slade's men.

Weir-Daley has signed a two year deal with Notts and joins Jason Lee, Lawrie Dudfield, Sam and Andy Parkinson in the Notts attacking ranks.

His pace and obvious finishing ability will add a new dimension to the Magpies and the signing can only be looked upon as a positive one.

This is particularly true as Forest offered him a deal to stay at the City Ground and two of his other former employers also wanted him with Bradford boss Stuart McCall and Lincoln both snubbed.

A tribunal is set to work out how much compensation Notts will owe their rivals from across the Trent.
