Notts new boys... Who are ya?

Last updated : 15 March 2007 By Paul Smith

Name: Myles Weston

Date of Birth: March 12th 1988

Born: Lewisham, South-East London

Clubs: Charlton Athletic, Notts County (loan)

Position: Left-wing

Honours: Capped at England schoolboy level in Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 Internationals.

Weston has yet to make his senior debut for Charlton, or indeed anywhere, but what he lacks in experience he makes up for in pace and trickery. With the current poor form of established left-winger Andy Parkinson, the move will appear to be a very positive one by manager Steve Thompson.

Myles with Stacy Long... Dont we know him?

Having learned from the likes of Alan Curbishley, Iain Dowie and Alan Pardew, Weston's greatest claim to fame is having appeared alongside England World-Cup squad member and fellow winger Theo Walcott. Current Nottingham Forest favourite Lewis McGugan also appeared alongside Weston at under-16 level.

Number 30 in Premiership outfit Charlton's squad lists, Weston has been sent out to gain experience.

He is a lightning quick wide man who isn't scared to run at the opposition and has an eye for goal with two goals in 14 reserve starts last season. His current one year professional deal at the Valley expires in the summer and so his determination to impress will be high.

Name:
James Walker

Born: November 25th, 1987

Place of Birth: Hackney, London

Clubs: Charlton Athletic, Hartlepool United (loan), Bristol Rovers (loan), Leyton Orient (loan), Notts County (loan)

Position: Striker

Professional Appearances: 21

Professional Goals: 3

Honours: England Under-18 International

Walker's experience amounts to more than Weston's, with numerous loan spells aside from regular reserve team action at Charlton. He actually figured against the Magpies for League 2 rivals Bristol Rovers in their 2-1 win at Meadow Lane back in October, but his only contribution on that day was, as the 'Official Site' described in their match reports: "James Walker lashed a wild effort wide for Rovers (after) being placed through by Craig Disley as the on-loan Charlton striker looked to bag his second goal in as many games after his winner against Boston last weekend."

Walker... Looking forward to Notts move
Prior to his Rovers loan move, he was actually released by Charlton until Dowie took charge and offered him a trial with a view to a permanent signing. His trial went well, scoring against Hibernian and Millwall Germinal Beerschot in pre-season friendlies, earning him a one year deal and the squad number 28.

He has made the majority of his professional appearances on loan at Leyton Orient as 2007 turned in. He made 14 appearances, scoring twice, the second his final touch in an Orient shirt.

At 5ft 11, Walker is describes a powerful player, with plenty of pace and an unnerving ability to shoot from anywhere.

Having learned from the likes of Darren Bent and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink this season, Notts will be hoping he can discover some of their obvious abilities.

Speaking to the 'Official Site' on the day of his move, Walker said: "I'm used to the league and obviously it's a bit rough, but if you want to play in the Premiership you have to get used to it.

"Coming here and playing for points is much better than playing reserve games, so I am really pleased to be coming to Notts County to hopefully play some games.

"As a striker I can get a few goals - and hopefully show the fans some tricks along the way! I will be working really hard and I am looking forward to playing for Notts."

His first game for Notts will be at Rovers, of which he said: "My time down there was good and I got on well with the fans, so I do hope I get a good reception."

Walker is set to be handed the number seventeen squad number, with Weston taking the seven shirt vacated by Liam Needham.
