Edwards during his Hull days
Millsy’s fourth signing of the summer comes in the mould of a solid centre half although far be it from us to judge his defensive skills as of yet. Even despite the fact that Edwards was a key-member of the Grimsby defence, who let in no less than 81 goals last season, that will be joining us in Division 3.

Edwards started his career at Hull City, having a successful 6 year spell at the club. He emerged on the scene at the tender age of 17 and was immediately placed into the first team squad, being described by oncloudseven.com as having 'defensive qualities that were impossible to fault, his distribution was sometimes weak,' - so, sounds better than Fenton already.

Although the beefy centre-half soon found it hard to establish himself in the first XI, for with every new gaffer that came to the club, they brought their own ideas and, likewise, new players. Mike made 193 appearances at (15 from the bench), and scoring 8 goals before eventually leaving for Colchester in March 2003. Here he only made 5 appearances before joining the 'Fishy people' last season.

It was at Blundell Park where the 24-year old established a reputation as a consistent player who many fans tipped for the player of the year title (source: Grimsby Town Official Site).

The defender, now complete with dodgy-haircut (judge for yourself), made 35 appearances last season for the Mariners, scoring one goal. Here he played mainly as a full-back though; apparently Mike isn’t blessed with the necessary pace for that position.

Over his career he picked up a respectable 9 yellow cards and 2 red, not bad for a centre half.

Edwards rejected a one-year deal in favour of a more stable two-year deal with the 'Pies. With Grimsby with only 6 players still on contract and no manager, it seems a good choice to come to the Lane.

We shall see how Edwards fits into Millsy’s plan, it puts Tony Barras' contract in doubt, and we will only know when he comes back off holiday.
