Byron... On loan until the end of the season
The Scouser has yet to make a senior appearance anywhere, and arrives at Meadow Lane largely on the back of some impressive displays in Hull's Reserve side.

Indeed, Notts staff ran the rule over him as he featured in their 2-0 success over Scunthorpe on Wednesday night. In the Hull City 'Official Site' match report of the game, Byron is mentioned once: "Scunthorpe were almost handed a lifeline following a misunderstanding between Duke (Hull's goalkeeper) and Michael Byron. Chasing a long ball over the top, the City defender headed past his own 'keeper but recovered in time to clear the ball before it crossed the line."

Byron lined up alongside the likes of Nicky Barmby, Danny Coles and Dean Marney in that game, and he has been a regular in the Championship sides reserves for two years now, after his rise through their Centre of Excellence.

A tall and imposing figure, Hull's number 35 was picked off Wigan's youth system, and has featured in first team squads as an unused substitute on several times over the past two seasons.

NCM understand he is out of contract in the summer, and Thompson's philosophy of only getting players on loan if they are with a view to a permanent move means that if Byron impresses he may become a permanent fixture in Notts' backline.

One thing that puzzles Magpies fans is Notts seem to be covered there, with another young gun, Stephen Hunt, in fine form and Mike Edwards considered one of the best defenders in League 2. Some may ask what it means of the eccentric Captain, Alan White.
