Away Day Info - Macclesfield Town

Last updated : 13 August 2009 By Jacob Daniel
We're set for our first away game of the new season this Saturday, with the Magpies travelling north to the Moss Rose to face Macclesfield Town. After Saturday's crushing win over Bradford City a good following is expected to make the relatively short trip to Cheshire and NCM brings you all the important information for fans planning to make the journey at the weekend.

The Ground

Moss Rose,
London Road,
Macclesfield,
SK11 7SP
6,335

Macclesfield Town play at the Moss Rose ground, which is fairly small by Football League standards and holds 6,335, with 2,599 of these being seated. Down one side of the ground is the Alfred McAlpine Stand, a small covered stand which is split between home and away supporters. On the other side there is the Silk FM main stand, a tiny seated area which also houses terracing at either side, which is for home fans only. Behind one goal is the Star Lane Stand, which is for home fans and is half seating and half terraced. The majority of away supporters are housed behind the other goal on the uncovered Silkman Terrace.

Notts fans will mainly be housed in the Silkman Terrace, which is a large and uncovered terrace which houses 1,500 fans when full. The Magpies have also been allocated 400 seats in the Alfred McAlpine Stand, for those who don't wish to stand or want a bit of protection from the elements. Notts generally have a good record at the Moss Rose, the exact opposite to the Silkmen's record at Meadow Lane and will be hoping to continue that with victory on Saturday.

What is there to do nearby?

Attractions
Being a small town, Macclesfield has little in the way of tourist attractions or things to visit. There is a silk museum, for those who fancy learning a bit about Macclesfield's industrial past. We'd recommend going for a drink or simply arriving there a bit later though.

Food & Drink
Macclesfield town centre is a half hour walk from the ground, so there aren't a huge amount of pubs or food outlets near the ground. In the ground itself the usual selection of overpriced and usually not very appetising food and drink available. For those wanting a drink, The Golden Lion is the nearest pub to the ground and welcomes away supporters with a good range of drinks, but does not serve food. The pub can be located behind the ground's newest stand, the Alfred McAlpine stand. The Railway View pub on Byrons Lane serves a range of real ales and also homemade food and is a ten minute walk from the ground, which is on the way to the town centre. Also down London Road is The Albion, which has a beer garden and is family friendly whilst also serving a range of real ales.

How to get there

By Car
From Nottingham, the AA recommend going through Derby before taking the A52 through Ashbourne and Leek and the A523 on to Macclesfield. To find your own route however, there is a map which can be dragged about and viewed at the bottom of the page. The ground itself is actually located on the A523 and the ground will become visible once you enter the outskirts of the town itself. There is plentiful street parking in the areas directly around the ground.

By Coach
To book a place on the Supporters' Club coach, please call 0115 985 1111. Please note, you need to be a Supporters' Club member to travel on their coaches. To join, pop into the Supporters' Club offices at Meadow Lane on a home matchday.

By Train
There are two different routes of getting from Nottingham to Macclesfield by train, either going through Derby and Stoke-on-Trent or through Stockport. The journey itself takes around 2 hours and should be relatively easy, with times and prices listed below. We would recommend going through Derby and Stoke, which is a shorter distance and a more reliable service. To get to the ground from Macclesfield train station, turn left at the bottom of the approach to the station and follow it up until the traffic lights. Turn left again onto Mill Lane and follow this road as it becomes London Road and the ground will become visible after a walk of around 20-25 minutes.
