Away Day Info - Barnet

Last updated : 28 August 2009 By Jacob Daniel
Notts County are heading for their third away game in League Two this season tomorrow as they travel South to Underhill to face Ian Hendon's Barnet. Notts have a good record in North London and are expected to take a healthy following down tomorrow, if you're planning on being one of the Magpies travelling to Underhill then NCM has all the important information ahead of your trip.

The Ground

Underhill Stadium,
Barnet Lane,
Barnet,
EN5 2DN
5,500

Underhill is one of the smaller grounds in the division with a capacity barely over the 5,000 that is necessary by Football League rules. It has two terraced stands and two seated stands with away fans usually being given an allocation of around 1,000. This has been increased for the visit of Notts however, who have also been given the North Terrace, to push the number of away fans who can squeeze in to around 1,900. At one end of the ground is the newly built South Stand, an all seated stand which was necessary for the Bees to comply with Football League regulations. It holds around 1,000 fans. At the opposite end is the North Terrace, a small open terrace which is usually sparsely populated by home fans, but has been allocated to the Magpies and holds around 900.

Running down one side of the pitch is the Main Stand, a seated stand with a barreled roof and which has the Family Stand alongside it, which has a small section of seats which are available for those Notts fans unable to stand. On the opposite side is the East Terrace, home to Barnet's most vociferous home fans and which is split between the two sets of supporters. Notts have been allocated around 800 spaces in this terrace.

Attractions
There isn't a great deal to see in Barnet itself, but with central London just a short tube ride away the fan arriving early at a match is hardly going to be stuck for things to do. See the sights, do some shopping or just wander around soaking up the atmosphere before heading on the Northern Line to High Barnet.

Food and Drink
Those fans arriving in London itself will obviously be spoilt for choice by the amount of different eateries on offer, whilst Barnet High Street itself is home to a vast array of fast food outlets such as Subway, KFC, Greggs and various smaller kebab houses and chip shops. Near Underhill itself is the Fresh Fry chip shop which does a roaring trade on matchdays and is located across the main road. The traditional away pub at Underhill is the Red Lion, which is just across the road from the away terrace at Underhill. Weavers is a home pub and to be avoided, whilst on Barnet High Street The Mitre is one of the oldest pubs around.

How to get there

By Car
Barnet is a fairly easy away ground to reach by car, with the majority of the journey being spent going South on the M1. Take the M1 all the way to Junction 6a where it meets the M25. Continue on the M25 in the lane signposted for the Dartford Crossing and M11 (not Watford) and exit the M25 at Junction 23 (South Mimms Services). Continue on the A1081 St. Albans Road into the centre of Barnet and then onto Barnet Hill. The ground is situated just off this road and the floodlights should be visible. There is usually ample street parking around Underhill.

By Coach
To book a place on the Supporters' Club coach, please call 0115 985 1111. Please note, you need to be a Supporters' Club member to travel on their coaches. To join, pop into the Supporters' Club offices at Meadow Lane on a home matchday.

By Train
There are two methods of getting to Barnet by train, depending on whether you want to stick to mainline trains or take the tube. The tube is the more sensible route we reckon, with the tube station situated a stone's throw from Underhill. Just head down Barnet Hill towards the ground and it should take less than 5 minutes. You can also take the mainline train from King's Cross to New Barnet, which is a shorter journey than the tube but the station is a 15 minute walk from the ground. Come out of the station and turn right then left into Station Road, continue up to the traffic lights and turn right onto Barnet Hill, the ground is about 10 minutes walk up this road. Alternatively, buses 84, 384 and 107 run from New Barnet to the ground. The journey itself on the train is simple, from Nottingham to London St. Pancras and then the choice is yours as to whether to go on mainline trains or the tube.
