Away Day Info - Arnold Town

Last updated : 20 July 2009 By Jacob Daniel
Notts County are finally set for their pre-season game in the UK and perhaps the real beginning of a new era at Meadow Lane. A number of Notts fans are expected to make the short trip to Arnold Town's Eagle Valley Stadium on Tuesday July 21st to see Notts take on the Northern Counties East side. Here we look at all the important information for fans travelling to the match, which kicks off at 7:45pm.

The Ground

Arnold Town play at the new Eagle Valley Stadium, which comes from the town's original name of 'Ernehale', which means 'valley of eagles'. The club had played at Gedling Road for over 50 years but were evicted by the council, meaning that they had to move. The Eagle Valley complex was due to be completed by the start of the 2008/09 season but due to delays Arnold found themselves groundhopping for the early part of the season, playing in Gedling, Carlton and Dunkirk. The ground was finally opened in 2009 and was officially opened by Derby County manager in a friendly against the Rams last week.

It is situated on the A614 North of Arnold, near the Oxton/Southwell junction on the way to Calverton. The floodlights are visible from the A614 and parking is available at the ground. Eagle Valley also has a vibrant bar which serves a selection of drinks and where Notts fans will be welcome on the night. The fact the ground is out of town means that there aren't really any pubs or bars locally so unless you fancy a last minute stroll up a dual carriageway Arnold's own bar is probably the only option for fans wanting a pre-match drink, which opens at 6pm.

What to do nearby?

Not a lot really, it has to be said. With the ground being a new out of town venture between Arnold and Calverton there aren't really any bars, pubs, shops or anything within a reasonable walking distance of the Eagle Valley stadium. With it being a friendly it's got to be a last minute job for those who don't fancy standing on a terrace in the probable deluge or having a drink in Arnold's own supporters' bar.

Directions - By Car

Car is the only real option for getting to the Eagle Valley, and it isn't a particularly difficult one. The ground is visible from the A614 Ollerton Road and is on the corner of the Oxton/Southwell Junction. To get there from the centre of Nottingham, the A60 Mansfield Road goes all the way out of town where it splits into two roads, one of which is the A614 which you want. Continue on the A614 North and you should see the Eagle Valley's floodlights, the ground is at the junction with Oxton Road.

Parking at the ground is limited to around 70 cars, and there isn't a great deal of street parking available locally. However it is believed Arnold have plans for overspill parking if it is needed.

By Public Transport

Not really an option, unfortunately. The nearest train station is Hucknall which is a good 5 miles away and no bus services serve the ground, although they do go Arnold and Calverton but it is difficult to access the ground by foot. For those who can't drive it's probably worth asking on the NCM Messageboard if anyone is willing to give you a lift.

Prices

Prices are £5 for adults and £2.50 for kids, and the Eagle Valley is unsegregated for the match.
