Richo: I can't wait

Richardson will lead Notts County's record-breaking Championship winning side of 1997/98 against a Nottingham Forest Xl led by former Reds boss Frank Clark in the match that will take place at the end of April.

The 35-year-old - who managed the Magpies for much of last season - is being rewarded for nine and a half years tremendous service since signing from Birmingham City in 1996.

And, after never really bidding farewell to the Notts County fans, the commited defender admits he is chomping at the bit to walk-out at Meadow Lane again.

"I can't wait to get my boots back on and play my final game at Meadow Lane," Richardson told NCM.

"Every one who knows me knows how much I loved playing for this club.

"I'm looking forward to getting a proper chance to say goodbye to the fans who have supported me over the past ten years.

"It will be a day of mixed emotions. I'll be happy to play again, but then sad to know its then all over."

After having his playing contract terminated due to a knee injury in September, Richardson has been working as a full-time coach with Notts' Football in the Community programme.

The fans' favourite turned down a series of offers from other clubs to continue his playing career in order to undertake the role, but has no regrets over the decision.

"It (working at FITC) brings me new but rewarding challenges every day.

"I especially enjoy working with some of the more challenging children. The job is so rewarding when you get a positive response from one of these."

Despite initially being upset at the manner of his departure from Meadow Lane - he was promised a new contract should he prove his fitness - Richardson retains a positive outlook as to what the future holds.

"Obviously it would have been nice if things had worked out differently," he said.

"But I'm a positive person in life and I always believe things happen for a reason.

"My refereeing is going from strength to strength, so maybe I'll make the Premiership yet!"

Richardson's testimonial is taking place on Sunday 30th April at Meadow Lane.

The Notts side will be managed by Sam Allardyce and will feature Liverpool star Steve Finnan, goalkeeper Darren Ward, Gary Martindale, Mark Robson, Dennis Pearce plus many more.

Already confirmed on the Forest side are European Cup Winners Gary Birtles, Viv Anderson and Danny Wilson.

It will also contain former England internationals Nigel Clough and Steve Hodge plus Reds legend Steve Chettle.

For all the build-up to Richo's testimonial, be sure to check back to NCM in the upcoming weeks.
