It would now appear that the Magpies' season is over after their late resurgence was halted by an unlucky defeat to newly promoted Walsall.

Legg starts an attack in his Notts days
The Hucknall Town manager hopes that Steve Thompson's side will be more successful next time around.

"I wish them all the best next season; they are one of the clubs that I always look out for," said Legg.

"It's been disappointing for them this year after a good start. They don't belong in that league and the fans don't deserve that football. With a few changes, who knows next year?

"Notts are a team that should be in the Championship; like Forest should be in the Premiership."

The former Welsh international signed for Notts in the summer of 1993 from Swansea City, in a transfer worth an impressive £250,000. He went on to make 89 league appearances for County, scoring nine goals.

He later moved on to clubs such as Birmingham, Reading and Cardiff, before signing for Peterborough, where he later took up the role of player/assistant manager.

It was speculated that Legg was going to move back to Meadow Lane as a manager, during his time with The Posh. He explained: "I was linked to the job whilst I was at Peterborough. I think that (Gary) Mills was there at the time, but I never spoke to the club.

"It would have been nice to have gone, after playing there in the past and it was very nice to be linked to the club."
