EXCLUSIVE: Gary Mills Interview, part two

Last updated : 04 March 2004 By NCM Team

Are there any players who you are currently looking at bringing to Meadow Lane?

Yes.

Not mentioning any names?

No.

Are you still looking at Dele Adebola as a possibility?

(Cuffs ear) Who’s that, sorry?!

Dele Adebola.

You’ve done very well there. No erm, I’ve said no to Dele now. I didn’t get the right feeling from Dele over the last few days that he actually wanted to come and play for this club. I want players that want to come and play here and want to do well and the loan players I’ve brought in here have already done excellent. [Andy] Parkinson and [Paul] Boertien have both done very well. It’s Paul’s last game tomorrow*, he’s got to go back to Derby so we’re going to lose Paul. David Pipe- who we’ve got for another month- has also done excellent. So all their attitudes have been spot-on and I just didn’t feel that that was the case with Dele so he can rot in the reserves at Coventry.

How do long you think it’ll be before Steve Scoffham is ready for first-team football?

About two days ago!

Regarding the Tony Hackworth situation, is there even the slightest chance that he will ever play for Notts County again?

No.

None at all?

No.

And has there been any interest in Tony since he was placed on the list?

No.

We all know that a lot of players’ contracts expire in the summer, have any talks or decisions been made regarding them yet?

Yeah, we’re speaking to a couple of players and we’re hoping to have a couple of lads sorted over the next couple of weeks. There are a few that I won’t decide on until the end of the season because there is going to be a lot of players available for next season so I’ve got to make sure that when we start back in July, we’ve got the right players to go forward with this club next year.

Finally Gary, are Notts County staying up?

Yes.

And do you have a message for the fans?

Well, just that we’re going to stay-up, you’ve been here before and you know it can be done, there’s fifteen games to go – but it’s not going to be easy. But like I’ve said the moment I walked into this club, that we’re going to make it great again and it’s going to be a fantastic club to be involved with, to support and play for and to manage, to assist and to report on – everything about it is going to be good. So it is important that we stay in this division for next season and we’re working as hard as we can to do that and I’m 99-stroke-100 per cent certain that we can do that.
