Thompson. Since then a war of words have erupted between the pair, with Thompson's last word coming after the win at Bury on Saturday. After that he spoke to the gathered press, including 'Magpie World' and said this of Mendes: "Mendes had a pop which is Junior's way of doing things. We don't think he has done enough and thought he could have done more and good luck to him, but we've said he has got a year left but we don't want him back."

NCM ventured down to watch him in action at Sincil Bank yesterday and grabbed a word with the former Mansfield Town man who arrived as one of Thompson's many new boys during the summer and appeared 47 times, 25 as a starter for him this season, scoring just five goals.

When we asked him about Thompson's latest comments Mendes said he had nothing to say back: "He can say what he wants to say really. He's trying to make me look bad. People who

know me know what I'm about, know the amount of work rate I put in. I've come to Lincoln and all I can do is do what I can do and not blow things out of proportion."

Mendes knows his days are numbered at Notts, but he still found time to praise his former team-mates, especially his close mate Tcham N'Toya who notched his first league goal for Notts to settle the win at Bury: "Oh I was really pleased (for Tcham) and I rang him straight away when I found out and I had a word with a few of the lads. I was really happy and really happy for Tcham."

However, Mendes did concede that Notts were unlikely to improve much on their current league position of twelfth: "It's just mid-table now isn't it. But like I said, I was delighted that the lads got the win and even more so that Tcham."
