Jason Roberts Hit A Double For The Baggies
The Baggies included Jason Roberts, record signing Lee Hughes, Joe Murphy, Lee Marshall and Adam Chambers in their starting 11, and the transfer listed Roberts hit a brace to beat the plucky Notts youngsters.

Notts Team: Bacherini, Wilson, Hannigan, McFaul, Bostock, Friars (C), Baldry, Francis, Harrad, Nurse, Carney

Notts Subs: Barrow, Commons, Rhodes, Sherlock, MacGoldrick

Notts fell behind on 12 minutes when Roberts fired home via a deflection from outside the box.

Danny Bostock was pulled up for a foul on Roberts, and after the inital freekick hit the wall, Roberts hammered a shot towards goal which took a major deflection to send the ball flying past the Notts keeper Bacherini.

Albion continued to attack and Lee Hughes missed two good chances inside the penalty area, but fired wide and over when well placed to find the net.

Notts had their chances, Willis Francis was denied when well placed while Kris Nurse headed just wide, and The Magpies finally found the net just before half time.

Young Shane McFaul was the scorer, letting fly from 30 yards with a rasping drive which flew past the keeper and into the back of the net, much to the delight of the Notts players.

Half Time: 1-1

The Baggies started the half brightly and should have taken the lead when Lee Hughes found himself with an open goal from close range after a mix up in the defence, but he somehow hit the post and Notts cleared their lines.

Albion's frontline of Hughes and Roberts were causing Notts plenty of problems, and it wasn't long before they retook the lead, although it wasn't Hughes or Roberts who found the net, instead it was a Magpies player.

A fine cross from the right was turned into his own net by right back Kelvin Wilson, as both he and Danny Bostock stretched to clear the ball.

Notts were now attacking on the break, and rarely tested Irish keeper Murphy, with The Magpies limited to long range efforts, with Kris Nurse coming closest.

Albion rounded things off late on after missing a number of chances, when Roberts fired home at the far post to seal the victory.

In the end, 3-1 did flatter Notts with Albion missing a hatful of chances, but Notts did perform well in spells and can take some heart from the performance, while Danny Bostock and Emmet Friars will have learnt a great deal from coming up against Lee Hughes and Jason Roberts.

Friday night see's Notts take on Stoke City at Rocester FC in the Bass Vase.

Full Time: 1-3
