Tranmere cruised to a tenth home victory leaving Notts County rooted in the Division Two relegation zone following the 4-0 rout at Prenton Park.
Frenchman Eugene Dadi put the Merseysiders in the driving seat with two early goals. He volleyed off the underside of the bar when set up by new signing Paul Hall in the seventh minute.
Then he fired home his 16th goal of the season from the penalty spot seven minutes later after Ian Baraclough handled.
County struggled to put any real pressure on the home goal, although Tony Scully, who was outstanding throughout, brought the best out of home keeper John Achterberg in the first half.
Dadi made way for Canadian Iain Hume in the 67th minute. Two minutes later Hume volleyed home from the edge of the box from a part clearance and five minutes later he headed his 12th goal of the season when set up by David Beresford.
Paul Hall made an impressive first appearance for Tranmere and Ian Goodison was outstanding in defence.
The visitors almost got a consolation in the 79th minute but Achterberg made a fingertip save from a well struck free-kick by Oakes.
"We have had a very good week," said Tranmere boss Brian Little. "Really everything went well and it is a big result for us.†Little said he took a risk by leaving Hume on the bench after he had worked tirelessly in the midweek victory over Bristol City.
"He brightened things up when he came on and took his goals well,†he added.
County manager Gary Mills said: "We have lost 4-0. It is hard to take but we have got to take it on the chin and get ready for our next match.
“The result flattered Tranmere. I thought there were some good performances from my players and I have told them they must just keep going and hope for a change of fortune."
