The Meadow Lane voodoo continues

'Has been' although nice guy
Time to move on
The first half was marred by poor refeering decisions and Notts' unabiity to perform on the park. It reminded me, today of when we played under Jocky Scott, we didn't have a clue. We had no invention today, a total lack of ideas and lets face it most of the team don't seem to be bothered, do they?

Drop him
Not up to the mark
Marcel Cas, Ian Baraclough, Danny Stone, Darren Caskey and and even Danny Allsopp were poor today; Marcel can't defend, he's good in the air and can tackle and is excellent AT TIMES going forward. But we can't just have the odd good performance from his every so often. He is just so anonymous most of the time.

Ian Baraclough: You have never seen this website critisize Bill Dearden up to yet, but it makes me wonder why Bill keeps playing this 'has been' of a player. He is completely fruitless. He is just a poor player, who I think is past it, in every way possible. Perhaps I am being harsh, but I just don't rate him at all.

Missed
Darren Caskey: Get him out straight away. He'd save the club some money, his wages are ridiculous for a struggling second division team. He is so inconsistent, he is too slow, his passing his erratic and he is NEVER the player we hoped him to be when we signed him a year ago. We just need to get rid of Caskey, I am sorry to say. Many people say he'd play better in a better team or play better in a higher division. He needs to play well in this division and in this team before proving himself in another.

Dearden: "We've got to be better"
Danny Stone: Simply not good enough. Poor player in my eyes and never up to the standard when I have seen him this year. Put him in the reserves and give Ramsden a chance.

Danny Allsopp: Don't sell him, but if a hefty fee comes in (over 1.5 Million) then let him go, we need the money. He has been inconsitant this season. It looks as though he is going through that stage where he is just not getting the goals probably though because of the poor service from midfield and it's midfield that's the problem.

MATCH REPORT

Notts County's Darren Caskey and Oldham's Matt Appelby battle for the ball
But now to the match. We were clueless. I spoke to an elderly gentlemen after the match, who said that this was the worst game he had ever been to. Well I'm not sure about that. We were dire last year, a few games under Scott and one in particular under Brazil and one under Dearden last year verses Northampton. But still it was certainly the worst performance of the season.

Notts didn't get going, AGAIN and we just have too many over rated, past it players at the club who need to be moved on.

Now last season I wasn't a big fan of Paul Bolland. But this season, he has been very good, perhaps our best player even. I didn't think I'd say this but we missed him today. There defence ran through ours. With Caskey having no pace there central midfielder just cut past ours and Stallard plays a bit further up than Caskey and Stallard is nothing special defensively.

Notts County's Mark Stallard and Oldham's David Beharrall battle for the ball
It was Oldham though who started off much better. Although Notts did have an excellent chance to take the lead early on when good build up play was made before Danny Allsopp struck woeful with his left foot into the fingertips of Pogliacomi.

Against the run of play Notts took the lead from the enthusiastic Paul Heffernan. He was free at the back post from a Darren Caskey free kick and that header from the young Irishman gave County the lead.

1-0 to County

Notts County's Nick Fenton and Oldham's Clyde Wijnhard battle for the ball in the air
Like most things Notts County related, they don't last forever and neither did this one nil win. Soon after Oldham scored from a set piece from veteran David Eyres.

Now David Eyres is 38 years of age, and was one of the best players on the park today. He proved that you're not always cold if you're old, unlike some of the Notts players that is. Mentioning no names ofcourse!

The goal came from debatable free kick just outside the Notts County penalty box. Infact Notts fans weren't happy with Mr Bates' performance as match referee. The wall was ill-positioned and Eyres simply struck it straight into the back of the net. garden didn't move, presumebaly he was wrong sighted. But that goal from the veteran gave the visitors the equalising goal, which they deserved.

1-1

Less than two minutes later the other veteran and another veteran who still possesses quality. Darren Sheridan put the Latics in front after good build up play and overall a good goal. But it was poor defending from Notts and once more Oldham just kept killing Notts down the flanks especially on the right where Kevin Nicholson was given a run for his money after Josh Low, I think it was put him through the paces. But the second goal from Sheridan was assited by Eyres and it was a neat finish by the former Sheffield Wednesday great, John Sheridan's brother.

Oldham 2-1 up

Oldham's Darren Sheridan is congratulated by his team mates after scoring his sides second goal
Nothing was created by Notts from after this point until the full time whistle, absoloutly nothing. It was back to the same old ways infact; Inability to pass a ball to a person in the same colour shirt. Poor movement off the ball. Not winning first or second balls.

But it was the referee who was centre of attention as the teams left the field of play after he made some really mysterious decisions and also his inability to make some decision that were in need of making.

Half Time - NOTTS 1-2 OLDHAM

Notts County's Big Aussie Danny Allsopp and Oldham's Darren Sheridan battle for the ball
The best entertainment for Notts County fans probably came at half time when one of our under 10's/gymnasts did an absoloutly brilliant summersault on the pitch at half time.

But the sernior team came out looking none the wiser. I don't like to moan and be negative but I do like to tell things how they were. And if you weren't at the gamee you probably think I am being negative or whatever, but I don't think so. We were really bad again today I just hope we can rectify the problem.

Oldham were better in every department and Notts imply weren't up to the standards that were expected. We really missed Paul Bolland today, and I hope he is back for the clash on Tuesday.

Chances for few and far between in the second half, especially for Notts who created hardly anything. Garden did save a shot and also a header was hit downwards and then over the bar which was a lucky escape for Notts.

But unfortunately the visiting side wrapped up the points and continued to make make Meadow Lane an excellent hunting ground for them. They have won on the last four occasions now. It was Notts who were hit on the Counter attack after a poor corner. And Oldham got the ball and they broke, the three that were up there for Oldham just kept running and running and running. And eventually Craig Ireland was beaten for pace and Nick Fenton was beaten also and Chris Killen struck the ball into the back of the net from a ball in from the right hand side.

Notts County's Danny Stone is chased down by Oldham's Clyde Wijnhard
3-1

Well thats the way it finished and Notts will have to improve as always at home if they are to get anywhere this season. Tonight though, only after seven games they stare the relegation zone in the face as they only one place higher than fourth from bottom Luton.

Well I've said all I have to say. Until the next game then, and it's on Tuesday in the Worthington Cup against, who have we got again?.... oh yes, It's Oldham!
