Notts now in freefall...

Boston United's first home win for more than two months fired them four places up the League Two table and reignited outside hopes of the Pilgrims reaching the play-offs.

Victory by a four-goal margin ended a barren run in front of their own fans for the Pilgrims in which they had taken just two out of 15 points available. Meanwhile, defeat left Notts County still hovering just above the bottom six.

So, where do we go from here!?
The opening exchanges had been fairly even with each side creating a decent chance inside the first 15 minutes.

First for Boston David Noble drilled a shot inches wide from distance and then for County David Pipe wriggled into a shooting position only to see keeper Nathan Abbey tip away his low drive.

The next chance arrived on 23 minutes but Paul Ellender headed wide for Boston from a Noble free-kick.

These moments apart, the bulk of the first half was very much a turgid affair with neither side showing enough composure on the ball or creativity in the attacking third to suggest the deadlock would be easily broken.

Just before the break Boston sprang to life again with Courtney Pitt whipping over a cross from the left which evaded everyone and then the same player curled a 20-yard drive too high.

Boston were by far the brighter of the two sides in the opening moments of the second half and two testing free-kicks by Noble gave the visiting defence a couple of nervy moments.

The 62nd minute almost brought an overdue breakthrough when Daryl Clare got on the end of Noble's cross only to see his header bounce away off the bar.

Five minutes later a curling set-piece by Danny Thomas found Ellender whose deflected header forced a brilliant fingertip save from Rob Elliot.

Boston eventually got the rewards their pressure deserved in the 76th minute, albeit in strange circumstances when a free-kick wide on the left touchline from Noble went beyond everyone and into the County net.

Six minutes from time Boston made the points safe when debut boy Jermaine Easter burst through and slid a low shot past Elliot.

In stoppage time Lee Thompson cashed in on Elliot's poor clearance to slot home Boston's third and seconds later more County mix-ups saw Easter drill in a fourth from 15 yards.
