Notts County 3 Blackpool 1

It was the mixture that Notts County have served up so often since Christmas in front of their own fans - poor in the first half and transformed in the second.

Blackpool, ahead at the break, hardly knew what had hit them as Notts went on the rampage in a revitalised second period.

Blackpool, rather than the Magpies, looked the likelier to score again after Paul Robinson had fired them into the lead ten minutes before half time after a lightning right wing break by the visitors' man-of-the-match Martin Bullock, who was a the heart of all Blackpool's best moves.

Blackpool goalkeeper Phil Barnes had to deal with only one shot on target in those first 45 minutes but was overworked after the break.

He must have seen Paul Heffernan's 20-yard effort a little late as it squirmed inside his right hand post to bring Notts back into the game.

After that only Notts looked capable of winning it and were frequently denied by Barnes who in one Notts move made incredible stops from Danny Allsop and Richard Liburd.

He also did well to turn Paul Bolland's savage free-kick round his post but it was from the resultant corner that Notts went in front.

Bolland took the flag kick and central defender Craig Ireland headed through powerfully for his first goal of the season.

Not to be outdone the other Notts central defender, Nick Fenton, made the points safe with a low drive after Barnes had punched out.

Blackpool were restricted to isolated breakaways as they faded from the picture.

The three points means that Notts are virtually safe from relegation but manager Bily Dearden said afterwards that his ambition now was to see them finish in the top half of the table.
