Notts County are still looking for their first win in League Two, following last season's relegation, after they crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Yeovil at Meadow Lane.

The Magpies dominated for long spells and put Town's defence under great pressure but woeful finishing let them down very badly.

The hosts started at a cracking pace and two of the best chances of the game came their way within the first ten minutes.

New striker Glynn Hurst and Gavin Gordon were the culprits as the chances went begging.

Hirst blazed over from only six yards and Gordon somehow lost his footing when offered a clear opening.

Notts continued to batter away at the Yeovil defence and by half-time had won ten corners but not a goal to show for them.

Yeovil were altogether more direct and threatening in the second half but Notts retained an edge and deserved the goal that Gordon gave them in the 56th minute.

Matthew Gill produced one of his speciality long throws which Hurst could have converted at the back post, but when the ball eventually fell to Gordon he made no mistake from short range.

The hosts joy was short-lived as Yeovil broke quickly to fashion a chance for substitute Paul Terry who headed Michael Rose's cross past County goalkeeper Wayne Henderson on his home debut.

Henderson was really unlucky nine minutes from time when David Pipe needlessly conceded a penalty and, although the keeper parried the spot-kick, striker Phil Jevons was on the loose ball in a flash to leave him helpless.

Yeovil's win on their first ever trip to Meadow Lane means the Magpies have failed to secure maximum points in five starts at home.
