Following scrappy play (which was the story of the game) the next chance did not come for a while, but when it did it was only a half chance, with Dave Channilor heading over a corner from the left hand side after Notts had done well to block a shot.
Soon after The Hatters had another chance, this time it was Martin Pemberton, who had a left foot volley fly inches past Stuart Garden's post, with the Scotsman rooted to the spot.
Notts then had 2 decent chances to take the lead in a short space of time. Firstly, Stallard got away down the right and his cross glanced off the head of Danny Allsopp, who really should have done better.
Then Stallard got clear again, this time down the left and his low cross was turned over the bar from short range by Marcel Cas, without questions Notts' best chance of the half.
Just before half time, the fans finally got some nail biting action. Firstly Paul Bolland, once again impressive in midfield, won the ball and played Allsopp through, but from a narrow angle the Aussie hitman shot wide.
Straight from the goal kick a flick on sent Martin Pemberton on goal, he managed to get between Fenton and Stone before he went down in the area and the ref pointed to the spot. Stone was the guilty party, and was booked for the foul as was Stuart Garden for protesting.
Luke Beckett stepped up to take the penalty, and slammed the ball against the far right post and the ball rebounded to Ben Burgess who hit a first time shot which rebounded off the left hand post and Notts cleared the ball to safety, much to the delight of Notts' following.
HT: 0-0
In fairness, the 2nd half was a scrappy dull afair, with few chances. Stockport had a flurry of corners which Notts handled well, and Ben Burgess, unmarked, headed wide from 12 yards.
Ian Baraclough then had shot that wizzed just wide of Lee Jones' goal, the half volley shot came after Stockport failed to clear a Nicholson corner.
Notts had a decent shout for a penalty soon after, when Danny Allsopp got the better of Carlton Palmer before the lanky Forest reject looked to have brought Allsopp down, but appeals were waved away.
Marcel Cas had a half chance near the end, after cutting in from the right his left foot shot lacked power and was easy for Jones to save.
FT: 0-0
All in all, a scrappy afair but Notts did well to get a point after the penalty miss. Only 1 goal conceeded, and unbeaten after 3 games, things are running along smoothly. Notts face a tough week ahead with leaders Wigan coming to Meadow Lane next Saturday, followed by a tricky trip to Oakwell to take on Barnsley, Billy Dearden will be looking for at least 4 points from those games.
