Notts 4ever!

Notts celebrate their opening goal
Notts County further boosted their chances of remaining in Nationwide Division Two with a third consecutive victory at crisis club Bury.

Two goals by in-form Daniel Allsopp plus further efforts by Paul Heffernan and Marcel Cas avenged a 2-1 defeat by the Shakers at Meadow Lane last December.

In their last three matches, Bill Dearden's rapidly-improving outfit have scored eight times and not conceded any goals. However, this defeat for the Shakers leaves their own position in the table extremely precarious.

However, the Lancastrians are just hoping to be given a stay of execution to complete their remaining fixtures this season. They are due to play at Brighton on Saturday, but 117 years could be wiped out 24 hours earlier by court officials.

That is when Bury seek an extension to a two-week initial period in administration they were given a fortnight ago to raise £300,000 to keep them in business until the end of the campaign, and the signs are encouraging that their fund-raising activities are bringing in badly needed revenue.

After their highest gate of the season against Oldham last Tuesday, another healthy crowd, more than double what might have been expected before news of their troubles broke, braved the elements to see this relegation dogfight.

Sadly for the home fans they did not have much to cheer about as County never looked back after Allsopp put them ahead with a free header after just five minutes.

Bury's marking was non-existent, and when they did get players near the ball Heffernan was able to skip past Michael Nelson and Jamie Stuart to rifle in the second goal.

Nelson had a good header saved by Stuart Garden before Allsopp stretched County's advantage as he ran on to a Hefferman flick to beat Paddy Kenny with ease.

Cas celebrates after scoring County's fourth
Shakers boss Andy Preece believes his side weren't out of the game at half time. But they were just three minutes after the restart as Marcel Cas' s pace took him beyond three players before he finished with a low shot.

With the match out of reach, County relaxed and Bury had some bright moments with Preece hitting the woodwork and Garden making several fine saves.

Player manager Preece is shocked and saddened
But as Preece said later: "It was a shocker. I can't believe we came out and played like that after our recent performances at Wycombe and against Oldham.

"Our back four have been the platform in recent matches but this afternoon that is where we lost the game."

Opposite number Dearden said: "There is a long way to go and I still think we possibly need another four wins if we are to get out of trouble."
