Match Ratings...vs Southend Utd

(6 Average)

Wayne Henderson- 6, Star man. Unbelievably, gets the man of the match award despite making no impressive saves. He did little wrong, though, and made some decent claims. Can't be faulted on either goal.

Mike Edwards- 5, Started well but struggled as the game wore on. Still one of the better ones, but, like the rest, looked devoid of confidence during the second half.

Mike Whitlow- 3, Woeful. Has enjoyed a long and distinguished career at the top level of the game, but it's clear to everyone, except Mills, that he can no longer cut it. Lacks pace and gave the ball away almost every time he got it. Signed on a two-year deal but is already showing signs of his age.

Ian Richardson- 6, Commited as ever. However, should follow the example of Edwards, not Whitlow, and play the simple ball because distribution is woeful. Should be re-instated as captain.

David Pipe- 4, His worst game for Notts. Scuffed cross after cross, while he was lucky to collect just the one yellow card after going into a number of late challenges. A new manager could help him.

Paul Bolland- 5, Put in a tremendous amount of work rate, but unfortunately, that is not always enough. After enjoying a good start to the season, he now looks like the Bolland we saw at the back end of Dearden's reign. Gave the ball away almost every time he got it.

Craig Pead- 4, Hard to believe he was once a regular in Coventry's first team. No better than Bolland or Gill.

Rob Ullathorne- 6, Steady. Defended solidly and got forward well in the first half.

Youssef Sofiane- 6, Showed some neat touches and flicks, but it's impossible for a player such as him to shine in a team so poor. With decent service, could be a useful signing.

Tony Scully- 6, Produced one brilliant run early-on, but after that was easily shackled. Lacks support and looked a forlorn figure when Mills inexplicably took him off on the hour.

Marvin Robinson- 4, A waste. It doesn't matter how much Notts are paying him, on this evidence, it's too much. Mills should have realised that players released by Chesterfield and Mansfield are NOT good enough for Notts County.

Subs

Matty Williams (Robinson 45)- 5, Struggled to make an impact on the game. Hwever, he was playing a deeper role as soon as Hurst came on which does not suit his game.

Glynn Hurst (Scully 62)- 6, Took his goal well but struggled to get into the game. Deserves to start alongside Sofiane next league game.

Matty Gill (Pead 62)- 4, Never did anything remotely useful. The first player ever to be given a two-year deal on the basis of a long throw.

Not Used: Deeney, Wilson.
