Match Ratings...Vs Sheffield Wednesday

Last updated : 13 April 2004 By Rob Davies
The bore draw all but condemned Notts to Division Three, as it now seems that- depending on results around them- we now have to win all of our remaining four games, which- if we're honest- simply won't happen.

The lack of effort was there for all to see, the players already seem to have taken relegation on the chin instead of fighting against it and ended up quite a painful game to watch.

Ratings (6 Average)

Stuart Garden- 6, Like his opposite number, had very little to do. Dealt with a couple of testing crosses well.

David Pipe- 8, Star man. Another great display from Pipe in what could have been his last game in a Notts shirt. Looks so assured on the ball and we looked most dangerous when he bombed down the flank. Let's just hope we can get him permanently, but I have my doubts.

Nicky Fenton- 6, Pretty much had the day off against a weak forward line. Did what he had to do.

Tony Barras- 6, Better then he has been recently, but hasn't faced an easier frontline all season.

Ian Richardson- 6, Not one of his better displays. Everyone seemed to play "OK" yesterday and he was no exception.

Simon Baldry- 5, Probably the only player who played better under Dearden. Very poor yesterday, looked scared to run with the ball and was incapable of beating his man. Not the outlet he once was.

Paul Bolland- 5, Worked hard but certainly wasn't one of his better games. Seemed to go back to his headless chicken phase and gave the ball away very cheaply at times.

Stefan Oakes- 8, Along with Pipe, our best player by a mile. Passing was excellent and his set-pieces looked the only chance we had of a goal. Will be a crucial player next year, there certainly won't be many like him in Division Three.

Andy Parkinson- 5, Switched from his role on the left wing to that of a third striker but just couldn't get into the game.

David McGoldrick- 6, Worked hard in his first start and created a couple of chances for himself in the opening 10 minutes thanks to his quick skills. However, he never looked quite ready for the big stage just yet and his positioning at times showed a lack of experience.

Paul Heffernan- 5, Like many of his team-mates was never in the game and was lucky to stay on for the entire 90 in my book. Not looking like his true self, a worrying sign as his contract expires.

Subs

Steve Scoffham (McGoldrick 53)- 6, The feisty striker got into a few scrapes but could never have much of an impact with little service delivered to him.

Matty Williams (Parkinson 83)- 6, Showed some neat touches but didn't have time to make much of an impact. Deserves a start, especially as he too will be crucial next season.

Not Used: Arphexad, McHugh, Riley.
