Match Ratings...Vs Plymouth Argyle

Last updated : 07 March 2004 By Rob Davies
A good display by one of the most improving sides in the League and we can actually come away from yesterday's stalemate feeling that we could've beat the League leaders.

Plymouth were an overly physical side, Fenton & Pipe have both came away with injuries due to late tackles, but Notts dealt with the threat and held their own to earn a well-deserved point.

Ratings (6 Average)

Stuart Garden- 8, The defence looks so much more solid with him between the sticks. Produced one outstanding save in the First Half and a couple of half-decent ones in the second before pulling up at the end with a back injury, which is a worry.

David Pipe- 9, Star man. Another excellent display from Pipe. I refuse to believe Coventry have 11 players better than him. Got forward well again, but won almost every tackle he went in for and his performance was even more special as he played 80 minutes with a suspected broken nose.

Nicky Fenton- 8, Continued his return to form. Arguably the best all round defensive performance of the season yesterday considering who the opposition were, and he certainly played his part.

Tony Barras- 8, His best display for a long while. Produced a goal saving tackle when their forward was thorugh on goal and he didn't put a foot wrong all afternoon.

Ian Richardson- 7, Strong as ever. Hard to know what to say about him, he's consistently good. Nuff said.

Simon Baldry- 7, Had a great first half but faded badly in the second. Dribbling skills are excellent, but sometimes over-runs the ball. Still a crucial part of the team.

Darren Caskey- 7, Got stuck in much more than usual, but, dare I say it, he's still way too lazy. Produced some outstanding passes in the first half in particular.

Stefan Oakes- 5, Poor. Nothing like his debut. He was caught in possession way, way too much, hopefully not a sign of "I'm too good for this League" complacency. Still produced some decent passes and can hit a great shot, but needs to improve on this showing.

Paul Bolland- 8, Worked so hard. He's becoming quite a crucial part of the team all of a sudden, he will chase every ball and the commitment he showed in his very early Notts days has come back. Long may it continue.

Mikael Antoine-Curier- 6, Certainly the latest terrace whipping boy, Notts fans always have to have someone off their own team to boo. Missed a sitter but worked hard enough and linked up the play well.

Paul Heffernan- 6, Only showed glimpses of what he is capable of. Missed the penalty, maybe it's time to hit it to the other side on the odd occasion. Was through on two other occasions but couldn't stick it in the onion bag, let's hope it's a one off.

Subs

Steve Scoffham (Antoine-Curier 69)- 6, A gentle reminder that League football's not always a walk in the park. Barely touched the ball.

Tony Scully (Baldry 79)- 7, Looked lively and added a new dimension when he came on. Certainly worth a contract extension.

Ian Baraclough (Fenton 84)- 6, Did ok, but had little time to impress.

Not Used: Deeney, McHugh.
