Match Ratings...Vs Grimsby Town

Last updated : 03 March 2004 By Rob Davies
A great win for Notts- our third in a row- and even better, the long suffering supporters had another three goals, one from each striker, to cheer. Nights (in a football sense) don't get much better then this!!

Ratings (6 Average)

Stuart Garden- 7, Another competent display and if- as is widely expected- he leaves at the end of the season, he will be a bigger loss than first thought for Notts. A couple of decent saves with the score poised at 2-1.

David Pipe- 8, Bloody brilliant! Another top display, both defensively, and going forward. Made a couple of timely tackles while managing to motor down the right touchline throughout the game. What a signing he would be.

Nicky Fenton- 7, His best game in a while. Funny that both him and Barras did little wrong individually, but yet we were still shaky at the back.

Tony Barras- 6, Mills singled him out for praise but, for me, he looked shaky. Would be far happier to see Richo restored to the centre of the defence.

Ian Richardson- 8, Had a blinder. Actually having his best season for a while, certainly in the past few years. Leads by example and even got forward (not usually his strongest point) with ease yesterday.

Simon Baldry- 8, Good to see 'Balders' back at Meadow Lane again after a spell on the sidelines. Delivered a peach of a cross for the second, and improved as the game wore on, showing off his 'Brazilian' type skills as much as he could!

Darren Caskey- 7, The new system- where he actually is of some use for 70 odd minutes before tiring and being taken off- seems to be a beauty. Works harder under Mills, but still has the tendancy to pick the harder ball when the simple one would suffice.

Stefan Oakes- 7, Not quite up to the heights of his debut but another promising display nevertheless. Caught in possession too many times for my liking, but his ability at set pieces and long passing still looks a cut above.

Paul Bolland- 9, Star man. If there's a finer example of a player transforming under Mills then I'm still to see it. Fought for every single ball, gave 210% and was always running that extra yard. Must be knackered.

Mikael-Antoine Curier- 7, Had a decent game as far as linking up the play etc is concerned, but doesn't win enough headers. Got off the mark in a Notts shirt, but should really have had a hat-trick after missing two sitters.

Paul Heffernan- 7, Tightly marked but still managed to look dangerous and fire his sixth goal in 3 games. Great work by him also set up Scoffham's late winner and would've had a second late on had it not been for a disputable flag from the lino.

Subs

Frazer McHugh (Caskey- 75)- 6, Thought Scully would have been the better option, but McHugh didn't do much wrong.

Steve Scoffham (Antoine-Curier 75)- 8, My hero! How has he adjusted to League football so well and so quickly?! Scored his first- hopefully of many- in a Notts shirt and capped it off with a Lua Lua type flip which definetly won the champagne moment for me!

Not Used: Deeney, Scully, McGoldrick.

Best Opposition Player: Graham Hockless
