Match Ratings vs. Wrexham

Last updated : 30 September 2004 By Richard Brown

Wayne Henderson – 7 – Generally, had very little to do in the first half, although he made one remarkable reflex save from short-range that impressed whilst looking ever confident in claiming the ball. Unlucky with the latter developments of the game. Should most definitely go hell for leather and tie the man to us for the rest of the season. Sorry, Saul.

Kelvin Wilson – 8 – The mature, responsible manor in which Wilson conducts himself makes it barely believable that he’s still just 19-years old. Three consecutive starts have clearly benefited whilst the tit-for-tat experience at various points doesn’t look to have gone amiss. Tackled hard and – as a refreshing change from a younger whippersnapper of a defender – on his feet whilst looking ever assured coming forward.

Julian Baudet (sub ’81)– 6 – Another typically steady showing from the big French man. Scored his goal well – but was pulled back for offside. Made one basic, basic mistake but was let off emphatically by Wayne Henderson.

Gill: Breathing life into Notts
Emmet Friars – 6 – The potential is there for all to see, but so much will depend on Ian Richardson and Mike Whitlow to bring him into the game – let alone Mills and Gee – as their experience could just make the transition period that bit easier to handle.

Mike Whitlow – 5 – I find it hard to draw the line between experience, and just old. If someone knows, please put it in an email to me, won’t you?

David Pipe – 6 – For so long, he seemed so anonymous in the game. But, in front of the crowd in the Pavis Stand, he seemed to come to life. Threaded a beautiful ball through to Hurst which created the second-goal, so must take credit. Although lacks that edge that he had last season.

**StAr MaN** Craig Pead – See Below.

Matty Gill – 8 – As described in the report, ‘painfully effective’. And he was just that. Looked a much more rounded character than his usual blasé pass, throw, pass, throw line of thinking. Would definitely be worth chancing another drab showing should there be any possibility of a game like last night. Who'd have thought I'd be saying that a few weeks ago?

Youssef Sofiane (sub ‘90) – 7 – Showed good, quick foot-work throughout the evening as well as demonstrating a turn of pace that had been concealed behind flashy boots and celebrity girlfriends. If I was in Mills’ shoes, then definitely keep Sofiane for at least three more months.

Chris O’Grady – 6- Showed some good strength, touches and – like Kelvin Wilson – maturity belying of his teenage years. Possibly the best foil we’ve seen Hurst paired with – reminiscent of Heff and MAC. Quality.

Glynn Hurst – 7 – Finally, has that spring in his step and contests every ball with real conviction. Four goals in two games now for Hurst and his popularity growing by the minute, let’s just hope his purple patch will rub off on the rest, and Robert is very much your mother’s brother.

Tony Scully (Baudet ’81) – 6 – Had little time to impress. Although, let it be said, looked rather off the pace.

Gavin Gordon (Sofiane ’90) – Again, had little time to impress.

M.o.M: Craig Pead – 8/9

In a central midfield role, Pead showed exactly what he was all about. Tackled where tackles were needed, tracked back well and went forward from the back. Hopefully could produce this calibre of performance more regularly, then would maybe be worth extending his loan.
