Out-of-form Macclesfield and Notts County failed to break the deadlock in an uneventful goalless draw at Moss Rose.

Notts County have now not won in six games and have failed to score in their last four, while Macclesfield have had three successive draws.

The home side dominated the opening exchanges and in the second minute Allan Russell half-volleyed a Kevin McIntyre cross inches over the bar from six yards.

Moments later David Beresford then picked out Andy Smart who drilled wide from 20 yards.

County had their first attempt in the 12th minute but Alan Fettis, making his 400th career appearance, made a comfortable save to deny Matt Gill.

He made a better save 10 minutes later when he caught a bullet drive from David McGoldrick at the second attempt.

County keeper Kevin Pilkington then had to be on top form in the 37th minute as he palmed a firm glancing header from Danny Swailes over the crossbar.

However he could do nothing but look on minutes later as an Andy Smart 40-yard drive flew over his head but clipped the crossbar.

Pilkington was again on top form moments before the break as he palmed a drive from Beresford onto the underside of the crossbar with the loose ball bouncing off his shoulder and out for a corner.

Both sides seemed to settle for a point in the second half and the game only came to life deep in injury time when Macclesfield's Martin Bullock saw a curling shot cleared off the line by Kelvin Wilson before Tyrone Berry fluffed County's best chance of the game when he planted a 12-yard drive straight at Fettis with a tame left-foot shot.
