On-loan striker Danny Crow delivered the only goal of the game to secure the points for Notts County and extend Chester City's run without a victory to a dozen games.

In a lacklustre match with little spark from either side, the unlikely winner came on 69 minutes when Ali Gibb delivered a great cross from the right flank which was superbly directed by the head of Crow into the net.
Crow... Winner

Crow, on loan from Peterborough, had earlier spurned a great chance on 14 minutes. Myles Weston won a challenge with James Vaughan and slid the ball across the face of goal to Crow whose sidefooted effort from six yards out crept just past the post.

Weston forced John Danby into a full-length save on 20 minutes and the keeper could only parry the ball out towards Richard Butcher, who looked odds on to score until Laurence Wilson arrived with a last-ditch challenge to clear the ball to safety.

Seven minutes from the break a miscued cross-cum-shot from Craig Lindfield had keeper Kevin Pilkington back-peddling frantically and he was lucky to see the ball bounce onto the top of the crossbar.

Chester's best chance of the first half came a minute before the interval when John Murphy arrived at the back post to nod the ball into the path of Richie Partridge, the winger took a wild swipe but failed to connect.

County defender Mike Edwards almost entered the own goal of the season competition on 47 minutes when he volleyed a backpass to his keeper which looped over Pilkington and just past the upright.

Partridge headed over a difficult chance on 66 minutes and then Crow showed him how it should be done with the superbly directed header.

Kevin Roberts went close with a header and sub Chris Holroyd shot wide after a good run, as Chester pushed for the equaliser which never came, as their run without a win extended to 12 games.
