Benson: Hit a hat-trick today.
Classy Dagenham stunned Notts County with a six-goal masterclass at Victoria Road.

Paul Benson bagged a hat-trick and Matt Ritchie, Ben Strevens, and Magnus Okuonghae all netted as the Magpies defence self destructed.

Benson had the first chance of the half in the fifth minute but could only power his header straight at County keeper Russell Hoult from four yards.

Daggers midfielder Ritchie came close two minutes later when he wrong-footed Jason Beardsley before blazing over the bar from 10 yards.

Ritchie made no mistake in the ninth minute when he volleyed a sweet Sam Saunders cross low past Hoult from six yards to give Daggers the lead.

County nearly went two down in the 17th minute when Strevens out-jumped skipper Mike Edwards and the onrushing Hoult to flash a header narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

The striker was more deadly in the 24th minute when he lost Edwards inside the box yet again and thrashed a powerful volley across Hoult and into the corner of the County net.

The Magpies pressed the self-destruct button in the 35th minute when Benson pounced on a suicidal back pass by Richard Butcher before rounding Hoult and clipping into the net from a tight angle to make it three.

Daggers full-back Scott Griffiths got in on the act in the 42nd minute when he played a neat one-two with Benson before thundering just wide of the post from 15 yards.

Things went from bad to worse for County four minutes into the second half when Benson found himself unmarked in the box again and poked home a Saunders corner from point blank range.

County were shell-shocked and conceded a fifth goal in the 55th minute when Okuonghae rose highest on the corner of the area to thunder a bullet header back across goal and into the corner of the net.

The Magpies threw men forward late on with Jonathan Forte slotting a consolation goal past sub goalkeeper Ed Thompson with four minutes left, before Benson rubbed salt in the wound when he poked home Daggers' sixth in the 90th minute.
