Will He Stay Or Will He Go?

The 20 year old keeper started the final seven games of last season following a finger injury to Steve Mildenhall, and gave some promising displays which prompted Dearden to offer the Irishman a new contract.

Dearden today admitted Deeney has not said yes or no to signing a new deal with The Magpies, but should he refuse a new deal Notts and join another club The Magpies will be due compensation as he is under the age of 24 and was offered fresh terms by Notts.

"Saul has not given us an answer either way," Dearden told the Evening Post.

"We have made him an offer, but we have not heard anything from him or his agent in terms of an answer.

"He is back training with us, so we will have to wait and see."
Added Dearden.

Deeney had a three month loan spell with Third Division Hull City last season but failed to make an appearance for The Tigers and spent his time at The Communications Stadium warming the bench.

He also had a trial with Blackburn Rovers last season, who were impressed with Deeney, but did not follow up their interest at the time although it is thought they are still keeping taps on the former Republic of Ireland U19 keeper.

In seven appearances he kept one clean sheet for Notts, that was on the final day of the season when Notts defeated Cheltenham Town 1-0.
