Wigan Favourites to Sign Greenacre

"We made an offer for Chris Greenacre three weeks ago but they turned it down," said Wigan manager, Paul Jewell.

"They wanted to keep him for their FA Cup match (against Leicester) and we made an offer which we think is more than fair but I've heard nothing since."

The delay may be good news for Notts County fans, many of whom hope that the in-form striker will follow his former boss, Bill Dearden, to Meadow Lane.

Greenacre, a former colleague of County stars Danny Allsopp and Nick Fenton at Man City, has scored 21 goals in just 27 appearances for the Stags this season.

His contract expires in the summer and the Stags are under pressure to sell him while they can still get a fee.

Notts are also said to be interested in Mansfield's talented young midfielder, Craig Disley but the club have denied any interest in Cardiff's Andy Legg.
