Whitley's 3 month loan has just expired and the Northern Ireland midfielder has returned to Maine Road. He is however out of contract at the end of the season at City, and it is very likely he will be departing as he has been told he has no future at City.

He stated on his return to Notts in October he was delighted to be back and would love to stay as long as he could, and following Saturdays game he admitted he has had discussions over a permanent move to Notts.

"As soon as Notts came in for me on loan again I said yes," Whitley said.

"And I have discussed coming here permanently with the manager."

However, nothing can be done at the moment with Notts in administration and struggling financially. It is likely Whitley will be released by Man City in the summer, so perhaps Whitley could be back at Notts in the near future...only time will tell.
