White's future in the balance

Speaking in the Nottingham Evening Post, White has admitted that talks are on hold, and is understood to be undecided on whether there will be a new contract: "We are going to leave it until the end of the season just to decide whether the gaffer wants that, whether I want that or whether the club wants that and see what happens."

The central defender signed in the summer on a one year deal from neighbouring Boston United. He was immediately made Captain by boss Steve Thompson.

Despite making 38 appearances, White has been heavily criticised by supporters for his contributions to goals conceded. White is aware of this: "I have been a bit inconsistent but next season, if I am still here, I can prove a few people wrong."

White and Thompson have sat down with a view to agreeing terms, but because a deal hasn't been reached, there are suggestions he is playing for his future.

He may get a chance to shine tomorrow against Mansfield Town at Meadow Lane, with Thompson likely to bring him back in after White served a one match suspension.

One thing for sure is White is relishing the derby clash: "All the lads are up for it and we have had a great week. We feel we can get the fans back on side if we can put in a good performance and win. It could change the season for us and will give the fans something to cheer."
