White to lead new-look Magpies

New boy White - a new signing from Boston Utd - takes over the armband from Julien Baudet, who turned down the offer of a new deal to join Crewe Alexandra earlier in the summer.

Publicly described by Thompson as 'a natural leader', the centre back carries perhaps the most pedigree of all of Thompson's ten new signings and was a natural choice to fill the role.

The new skipper
"He will be a good leader for us out on the pitch," said Thompson on the 30-year-old.

Lee, meanwhile, is a more surprising choice for club captain. The 35-year-old striker - who has signed a two-year deal at Meadow Lane after his release by Northampton Town - takes over the role from Rob Ullathorne, who was released by former boss Gudjon Thordarson at the end of last season.

"He is an exception PR guy and a very good professional," Thompson told the Magpies official website.

The news will disappoint some sections of the Meadow Lane crowd, who had hoped that massive favourite David Pipe would be given the job.

Though only 22, Pipe was often an on-the-field leader for the Magpies last season and easily the club's best player.

All three players were attending their second day of pre-season training today, after the club's new-look squad got together for the first time yesterday.

Thompson and new assistant John Gannon briefly called the players together for a meet-and-greet session before the serious business started at the Club's brand new training facilities at ROKO Health & Fitness Centre in West Bridgeford.
