Returning?: McParland has stated that he would love to bring Forte back to the Lane.
Having released four fringe players, the Magpies are left with a squad of just 20, of which four are sidelined through injury.

Following Michael Edwards' withdrawal against Rochdale on Tuesday night, the team is down to the bare bones.

Down to only 16 fit players, it means that everyone is guaranteed a spot in the match day squad - hardly competition for places.

The January transfer window is due to slam shut at midnight on Saturday night, meaning that time is quickly ticking away for Ian McParland to bring in fresh faces.

It is highly likely that the decision could come back to bite hard in the short-term if the management team are unsuccessful in landing their targets.
