Unlucky Scoffham receives major set-back

Scoffham was involved in an accidental 9th minute clash with City's Louis Carey and fell to the floor clutching his face.

The immediate diagnosis from physio John Haseldon was that the young striker - who missed almost all of the last campaign with a twice-broken leg - had broken his cheekbone, meaning he will face a further spell on the sidelines.

The combatitive 22-year-old had established himself in the Magpies' starting Xl this season, after receiving a new one-year deal in the summer.

"It was an accidental clash but it makes you wonder where the luck is in this game," Scoffham told the Official website.

"I've broken my leg twice, missed a lot of games through injury, been suspended once and now this, it's just so frustrating."

Scoffham has made 15 appearences for the Magpies this season, with his solitary goal coming in the 2-1 home win over Lincoln City. He was also sent-off for violent conduct in the 1-1 draw against Chester City.

Elsewhere, Notts have received another piece of bad news - with Lewis McMahon almost certain to miss Saturday's game against Cheltenham.

The influential midfielder sustained a heavy knock to his ankle during last weekend's victory and had to be substituted at half-time. He later appeared on crutches, but may return to action for the trip to Boston a week on Saturday.
