Doug Ward, a director in the early 1990s, returns for another tour of duty, and John Scardino, brother of Notts County chairman Albert Scardino, takes his place in the boardroom after making a substantial financial commitment to the club.

Mr Ward joined the board of Notts County (officially The Notts. Incorporated Football Club Limited) in 1991 on his retirement from the motor trade and served until 1996. During his tenure he was responsible for overseeing the Centre of Excellence, youth programmes, and transport matters. He resumed active participation in Notts County in 2000, organising golf days and other commercial events for the club.

He and his wife Catherine live in Radcliffe-on-Trent.

Mr Scardino, 41, is a public relations consultant based in London. He moved to the UK in 2000 with his wife Jennifer, an executive with the international bank Citigroup. He handled media relations for the 2000 Presidential Debates Commission in the US and directed press activities for Americorps, the US volunteer service agency. He is a board member of the US charity CityCares and serves as an informal adviser to its UK affiliates and Business in the Community.

He is being taught football by his three-year-old son, Peter, who can now say with a perfect Nottinghamshire accent, "Go Magpies."

Today’s announcement follows this morning’s statement concerning the appointment of Peter Joyce to the board, also as a director.
