Trust apprehensive over Thompson appointment

Whilst we are lead to believe as supporters that the Trust's thirty per cent stake in the club allows them to have a substantial say in such major operations, it is believed by many that the club's upper-management have overridden the best advise of Trust representatives in appointing Steve Thompson as the Magpies' new manager earlier today.

Controversial: Steve Thompson
Such fears have lead only to more unrest amongst the club's supporters, as expressed in a statement from the Trust earlier today claiming that they too have their ‘reservations' on the appointment of one Steve Thompson.

"Once we were informed that Steve Thompson was the preferred candidate for the team manager position the trust board made its concerns known to club chairman Jeff Moore," said a spokesman, speaking to the Nottingham Evening Post earlier today.

"A delegation from the trust board met with Jeff Moore and he outlined his belief that given the current situation at the club with respect to budgets and playing staff, Steve Thompson was the best choice for the role.

"The trust board expressed their deep concerns about the appointment, despite the chairman reiterating that he believed Steve Thompson was the best choice available.

The said reservations of the newly-installed Notts manager, Steve Thompson derive, of course, from his time here during the mid-nineties working as ‘General Manager' under then first-team boss Colin Murphy.

The trust board, however, are said to have made it clear that they simply could not support the appointment of a man who seems to have forced a wedge straight down the middle of the club's long-suffering supporters.

NCM will, of course, bring you more reaction from today's announcement as the week goes on.
